Observation, bibliographic or documentary analysis, analysis - synthesis, and phenomenology were used in the preparation of the text. The study was carried out at the University of Las Tunas, Cuba, through a three year investigation, which showed the tendency to use the hypothesis as an instrument. The investigation showed that the other instruments are alternatives to the hypothesis. El objetivo del artículo es dotar a los interesados en la Metodología de la Investigación de un material de consulta, que posibilite la opción de emplear otros instrumentos alternativos a la hipótesis. En la elaboración del texto se usaron la observación, el análisis bibliográfico o documental, el análisis y la síntesis y la fenomenológía. El estudio se realizó en la Universidad de Las Tunas, Cuba, mediante una investigación que mostró la tendencia a utilizar la hipótesis como instrumento. En la indagación se demostró que los demás instrumentos son alternativos a la hipótesis.
