Cobia Pacífico Oriental Tropical Golfo de Panamá especies invasoras introducción de especies Cobia tropical Eastern Pacific Gulf of Panama invasive species introduction of species The cobia (Rachycentron cannadum) is an aquatic species broadly distributed in the tropical, subtropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific, and until recently absent from the eastern Pacific. By October of 2015, the first specimens were captured in the Colombian Pacific and by November of 2015, the first specimen in waters of the Gulf of Panama was sighted at about 8 Km from the coast (8° 9’ 37.19’’ N, 80° 19’ 28.49’’ W). The specimen was captured at 30m depth using 7.60 cm mesh size gill nets. The fish caught was a 61.5 cm in total length female in its initial phase of gonadal development. This report for the Panamanian Pacific, creates the challenge of following up on the progress of this species into other areas of the Tropical Eastern Pacific. La cobia (Rachycentron canadum) es una especie marina de amplia distribución en las aguas tropicales, subtropicales y templadas del Atlántico e Indopacífico, y hasta hace poco ausente en el Pacífico Oriental. En octubre de 2015 se capturaron los primeros ejemplares en aguas del Pacífico colombiano y en noviembre de 2015 se capturó el primer ejemplar en aguas del Golfo de Panamá a unos 16 km de la costa (8° 9'37.19"N, 80°19'28.49"W). El espécimen fue capturado con red agallera de 7.60 cm de luz de malla a 30 m de profundidad, aproximadamente y corresponde a una hembra de 61.5 cm de longitud total, en fase inicial de desarrollo gonadal. Este reporte para el Pacífico panameño, crea el reto de dar seguimiento al avance de esta especie hacia otras áreas el Pacífico Oriental Tropical. Universidad de Panamá.
