The methodology consisted ofreviewing the way in which the historical discipline - and other social sciences - hasused the image as a tool to study social worlds, identifying advances and limitations inthis matter, concluding that it has a fundamental role in the configuration processes ofcollective memory, especially where traumatic experiences have taken place. El objetivo del ensayo es plantear la relación que la imagen sostiene con la historia y lamemoria como formas de aproximación al pasado. La metodología consistió en revisarla manera en que la disciplina histórica —y otras ciencias sociales— ha empleadola imagen como herramienta para estudiar mundos sociales, al identificar avances ylimitaciones en esta materia. Se concluye que esta tiene un papel fundamental en losprocesos de configuración de la memoria colectiva, especialmente donde experienciastraumáticas han tenido lugar.
