The voices of five grandmothers from Pueblo Nuevo community, canton of Garabito, Costa Rica, will be heard. Their contributions shared through an interview will be the basis for guiding the analysis. As a starting point, it is recognized that at different moments in history, generating fear, denial, and death. Religious references were found to have been present as a form of reaction, support, and strength. Este artículo explora la forma como las mujeres adultas mayores acuden a sus referencias/prácticas religiosas para buscar protección ante la amenaza a la vida en tiempos de pandemia. Se escucharán las voces de cinco abuelas residentes en la comunidad de Pueblo Nuevo, cantón de Garabito, Costa Rica. Sus aportes compartidos por medio de una entrevista serán la base que orientará el análisis. Como punto de partida se reconoce que en diferentes momentos de la historia han existido pandemias, lo que genera temor, negación y muerte. Se apunta que las referencias religiosas han estado presentes como forma de reacción, soporte y fortaleza. Este artigo explora a forma como as mulheres idosas recorrem a suas referências/práticas religiosas para buscar proteção diante da ameaça à vida em tempos de pandemia. Serão escutadas as vozes de cinco avós residentes na comunidade de Pueblo Nuevo, cantón de Garabito, Costa Rica. Suas contribuições partilhadas por meio de uma entrevista serão a base que orientará a análise. Como ponto de partida se reconhece que em diferentes momentos da história existiram pandemias; o que gera temor, negação e morte. Observa-se que as referências religiosas têm estado presentes como forma de reação, suporte e fortaleza.
