Eight decades since that event now, it is crucial to reflect on the approaches guiding the teaching of this subject. Because religious education holds the ethical responsibility to help create a more just and equitable society, the current paper addresses the need to include a gender perspective in the religious education curriculum. By so doing, curricular contents that promote full recognition of women and their rights will stay up to date. Desde 1940, la educación religiosa es una materia más del currículo de la educación pública costarricense. Al cumplirse 80 años de ese hecho, es oportuno reflexionar sobre los enfoques que sustentan los programas de esta materia. Este artículo se ocupará de plantear la pertinencia de incluir la perspectiva de género en los programas. La educación religiosa tiene la responsabilidad ética de aportar para la construcción de una sociedad justa y equitativa. Incorporar esta perspectiva permitirá actualizar contenidos que promuevan el reconocimiento pleno de la humanidad de las mujeres y de los derechos que les atañen como tales. Desde 1940, a educação religiosa é uma matéria mais do currículo da educação pública costarriquenha. Ao chegar ao 80º aniversário desse acontecimento, é oportuno refletir sobre os enfoques que sustentam os programas desta matéria. Este artigo se ocupará de apresentar a pertinência de incluir a perspectiva de gênero nos programas. A educação religiosa tem a responsabilidade ética de contribuir para a construção de uma sociedade justa e equitativa. Incorporar esta perspectiva permitirá atualizar conteúdos que promovam o reconhecimento pleno da humanidade das mulheres e dos direitos que lhes correspondem como tais.
