In this respect, this article aims to lay the foundations for the importance of documentation in interpretation in specialized contexts such as the environment in the Italian-Spanish combination. Initially, the state of the art will be introduced through the environmental legislation in Spain and Italy and its multidisciplinary feature. Later, the interpreter's competence in specialized contexts and the linguistic peculiarities of the environment will be introduced. Finally, the importance of the documentary phases in interpretation will be introduced together with a practical proposal based on the XI Congreso Ibérico de Gestión y Planificación Del Agua, in order to present the different documentary phases in the development of the profession. El medioambiente se postula como una disciplina innovadora que abarca numerosas ramas que dificultan una precisa delimitación terminológica. A tal respecto, el presente artículo pretende sentar las bases sobre la importancia de la documentación en interpretación en contextos especializados como el del medioambiente en la combinación italiano-español. Inicialmente se introducirá el estado de la cuestión a través de la legislación medioambiental en España e Italia y su rasgo multidisciplinar. Posteriormente, se introducirá la competencia del intérprete en contextos especializados y las peculiaridades lingüísticas que presenta el medioambiente. Por último, se introducirá la importancia de las fases documentales en interpretación junto a una propuesta práctica extraída del XI Congreso Ibérico de Gestión y Planificación Del Agua, con el fin de presentar las diferentes fases documentales en el desarrollo de la profesión.
