The purpose and contributionof this essay, the result of academic research, pretends to describe the perspective that the Center for General Studies (CEG hereinafter) of the National University (UNA hereinafter) has had, with a Latin American perspective, in its orientation and problematization from the area of philosophy, forming critical thinking contextualized in the immediate region. There is no intention to describe or debate Latin American identity in ontological terms, the dilemma of civilization and barbarism, or the importance of Latin America and Latin American thought in the context of neoliberalism and the current globalized world, given that these contents should be developed in separate articles or essays. Decoloniality, cultural studies, or interculturality, among other topics related to a Latin American viewpoint, are raised from this essay of ideas. Los Estudios Generales forman parte del ser y quehacer en las universidades públicas de Costa Rica. Son el punto de referencia para el estudiantado de primer ingreso, al adentrarse en planos de reflexión más amplios y problematizadores, en cada una de las áreas del pensamiento. El motivo y aporte de este ensayo, fruto de una investigación académica, pretende describir la perspectiva que ha tenidoel Centro de Estudios Generales (CEG en adelante) de la Universidad Nacional (UNA en adelante), con una panorámica latinoamericanista, en su orientación y problematización desde el área de filosofía, formando pensamiento crítico contextualizado en la región inmediata. No se tiene la intencionalidad de describir o debatir la identidad latinoamericana en términos ontológicos, el dilema de la civilización y la barbarie o la importancia de América Latina y del pensamiento latinoamericano en el contexto de neoliberalismo y el mundoglobalizado actual, dado que estos contenidos deberían desarrollarse en artículos o ensayos por separado. La decolonialidad, los estudios culturales o interculturalidad, entre otros temas atinentes a una línea latinoamericana, se plantean desde este ensayo de ideas.
