This second essay in a series of four concerning humanism as a revolutionary project examines the fourth historical blossom of humanist praxis since its origins in Classic Greece. The following text basically covers three facets of this topic: 1. A general introduction to liberal thought in the XVIIIth century and its specific significance for humanism; 2. The work of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and its humanist significance; 3. Conclusions referred to the particular theme of this article as well as its import within he series of four essays that cover the five main blossoming of humanist praxis up to our days, while in the final one we shall focus in what we have decided to term as “New Humanism Manifesto”. Thus, with this second essay we will come closer to the socialist humanism of the XIXth century (fifth blossom of humanist praxis) and in this manner we will reach the threshold of the most important of these works in which we will attempt to establish in a more advanced form the main concepts necessary for establishing a XXIst century humanism. En este segundo ensayo de la serie de cuatro sobre el humanismo en tanto proyecto revolucionario, abordamos lo esencial del cuarto brote histórico de praxis humanista desde sus orígenes en la Grecia clásica. El texto que sigue comprende básicamente tres facetas del tema que nos convoca intelectualmente en este ensayo: 1. Una introducción general al pensamiento liberal del siglo XVIII y su significación desde el ángulo específico del humanismo; 2. La obra y significación humanista de Jean-Jacques Rousseau; 3. Terminamos con una serie de conclusiones relativas a la temática particular de este artículo así como de su importancia en la serie de cuatro ensayos que cubren en su totalidad los cinco grandes brotes de praxis humanista hasta nuestros días, concentrándonos en el último, en lo que llamaremos “Manifiesto del Nuevo Humanismo”. Así, con este segundo ensayo nos acercamos al humanismo socialista del siglo XIX (quinto brote de praxis humanista) y quedamos en la antesala del artículo más importante con el que intentaremos sentar de manera más avanzada los conceptos fundamentales para un humanismo del siglo XXI.
