Una aproximación inicial González Sánchez, David E. education history pedagogy press educación historia pedagogía prensa pedagógica This paper addresses a first look at the educational journal El Maestro published in Costa Rica between 1926 and 1931. For this purpose, an analysis of the content of the journal was applied to determine a profile of the object of study. The article contextualizes the historical, social, and intellectual environment in which the publication is identified. It also describes the type of content it offers and tries to identify some veins for future research that shed new light on the history of Costa Rican education and pedagogical thought. El escrito establece una aproximación a la revista El Maestro editada en Costa Rica entre 1926 y 1931. Para ello, se propuso un análisis del contenido de la revista, mediante el que se crea un perfil que permite indagar sus cualidades como objeto de estudio, desde la perspectiva de la prensa pedagógica. El artículo contextualiza el ámbito histórico, social e intelectual en el cual se desarrolló la publicación, describe el tipo de contenidos que ofrece e intenta señalar algunas vetas para investigaciones futuras que den nuevas luces sobre la historia de la educación y el pensamiento pedagógico costarricenses.
