As a curricular proposal, the “Sistema Educativo Rebelde Zapatista” in Chiapas responds to a specific civil society project and to a specific vision of the human being. To find these tenets, it is necessary to examine the movements that have been developed during twenty years of struggle, actions, and transformations in this society, a society that has declared itself autonomous from the federal government of Mexico. The pedagogical importance of analyzing this type of experiences lies in the possibility of building educational proposals from and for our geopolitical reality. Likewise, it is necessary to know alternative and diverse pedagogies from a critical standpoint. Este artículo expone las premisas que conforman, actualmente, el sistema educativo que se viene gestando, desde 1996, en las comunidades Zapatistas, indígenas y autónomas de Chiapas, en el sureste mexicano. Como propuesta curricular, el Sistema Educativo Rebelde Zapatista, en Chiapas, responde a un proyecto determinado de sociedad civil, y una específica visión de ser humano. Para encontrar estos fundamentos, es necesario revisar las movilizaciones que se han gestado a lo largo de veinte años de luchas, acciones y transformaciones de esta sociedad. Una sociedad que se ha declarado, así misma, autónoma con respecto al gobierno federal de México. La importancia pedagógica de analizar este tipo de experiencias, radica en la posibilidad de construir propuestas educativas desde y para nuestra realidad geopolítica. Asimismo, en la necesidad de conocer pedagogías alternas y diversas, bajo un enfoque crítico.
