In order to do so, it posits the question “How do professors providing lessons in Spanish Philology major define their identity?” Concerning the question, an analysis of the fundamental aspects of professional identity was executed taking into consideration: the conceptions of teaching and learning, strategies employed, as well as the related affective and motivational factors. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la identidad profesional docente del profesorado del Departamento de Lingüística de la Escuela de Filología, Lingüística y Literatura de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Para ello, se parte de la pregunta: ¿Cómo definen su identidad profesional los docentes que imparten lecciones en la carrera de Filología Española? En torno a este cuestionamiento se realiza un análisis de aspectos fundamentales de la identidad profesional: las concepciones sobre la enseñanza y el aprendizaje; las estrategias empleadas, y los factores afectivos y motivacionales.
