Para entender el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje de un idioma extranjero requiere del apoyo de dos posturas tradicionales en el amplio marco constructivista: La vertiente biológica, que se preocupa de señalar las raíces biológicas y el procesamiento de la infomación lingüística o la vertiente social, y más concentrada en el esclarecimiento de los roles alumno-docente, de los docentes, de la institución en la enseñanza (Klinger y Vadillo, 2000).
