Hence, from the author´s perspective, teaching in this country has been dominated by European models, which however correct at the time of being implemented in this context, they lack the critical, ethical, aesthetic and political approach that can be strictly provided by a Latin American critical pedagogy standpoint. El siguiente ensayo trata sobre la necesidad de incluir la pedagogía crítica, de corte latinoamericano, como uno de los fundamentos principales en el sistema educativo público de Costa Rica. Para el autor, la enseñanza en este país ha estado dominada por modelos de origen europeo que, aunque bien pueden ser acertados a la hora de implementarlos en este contexto, carecen de los planteamientos críticos, éticos, estéticos y políticos que puede brindar un enfoque pedagógico propiamente latinoamericano.
