The research uses classic bibliography in health sciences and psychology, international standards on hearing thresholds, and validated researches addressing the development of tonal discrimination, localization of sounds in space, and the impact of hearing on integral child development. It is concluded that the hearing development in early childhood is not limited to physiological aspect, but it also involves other factors such as sensory, sensorimotor, perceptual and cognitive ones. El presente artículo establece como objetivo conocer el desarrollo auditivo que experimentan niños y niñas otológicamente sanos durante la primera infancia, porque el profesorado de educación preescolar debe contar con documentación objetiva que aborde la materia para mejorar y potenciar su trabajo didáctico en el aula. Se recurre a bibliografía clásica de las ciencias de la salud y la psicología, normas internacionales sobre umbrales de audición e investigaciones validadas; abordando el desarrollo de la discriminación tonal, la localización de sonidos en el espacio y el impacto de la audición en el desarrollo integral infantil. Se concluye que el desarrollo auditivo durante la primera infancia no se limita al aspecto fisiológico, sino que también cobran relevancia los factores sensoriales, sensorio-motores y perceptivo-cognitivos.
