The method used was a review of academic, technical, and scientific literature, descriptive of the characteristics of the different variations of lean manufacturing and how it was used in the design of products or services in the proposals of the authors. As a result, thirty documents were obtained, between theoretical support and practical application, which demonstrate the breadth of the method for the different fields of human knowledge, being the main conclusion that it is an evolving and very effective methodology to improve production processes and the quality of consumer goods and services. El objetivo de este artículo es revisar la aplicación de la metodología de diseño de sistemas digitales de información denominada manufactura esbelta. El método utilizado fue una revisión de literatura académica, técnica y científica, descriptiva de las características de las diferentes variaciones de la manufactura esbelta y como se utilizó en el diseño de productos o servicios en las propuestas de los autores. Como resultado se obtuvieron treinta documentos, entre soporte teórico y aplicación práctica, que demuestran la amplitud del método para los diferentes campos del conocimiento humano, siendo la principal conclusión, que es una metodología en evolución y muy efectiva para mejorar los procesos de producción y la calidad de los bienes de consumo y servicios.
