Reflexiones desde experiencias en espacios rurales Vargas Venegas, Marta Education learning challenges rural spaces contextualization quality of life educación aprendizaje desafíos espacios rurales contextualización calidad de vida This essay reviews the characteristics of the Costa Rican educational system, and then approaches the challenges that arise in education as a result to that system, to the demands given by the vertiginous changes at the global and local levels, to the territorial inequalities, to the economic model, and to the scale of values that promote the non-continuation of rural practices related to agriculture by young people. The reflection revolves around what is understood as education and how it should be linked to the contexts in which it is generated, so that learning is meaningful and relevant, and promotes the quality of individual and collective life. Challenges that have become intensified historical debts, and those that have been appearing after the low capacity of the system to provide the conditions of access, quality and permanence of students are examined. The aim of this paper is to rethink education and the educational practices developed by the institutions, so that these practices are closer to the needs and desires of the participants and help improve their quality of life. Este ensayo parte de las características del sistema educativo costarricense, para, luego, aproximarse a los desafíos que se presentan en la educación y que responden tanto a ese sistema, a las demandas dadas por los cambios vertiginosos a nivel global y local, a las desigualdades territoriales, así como al modelo económico y a la escala de valores que promueve la no continuidad de prácticas rurales relacionadas con la agricultura por parte de las personas jóvenes. La reflexión gira en torno a lo que se entiende por educación y cómo esta debe vincularse con los contextos en los que se gesta, de manera que lo aprendido tenga sentido, sea pertinente y promueva la calidad de vida singular y colectiva. Se recuperan desafíos que se han convertido en deudas históricas intensificadas y aquellos que han ido apareciendo tras la poca capacidad del sistema para brindar las condiciones de acceso, calidad y permanencia de las personas estudiantes. Con ello, se busca repensar la educación y las prácticas educativas que se desarrollan desde la institucionalidad, de manera que cada vez se aproximen más a las necesidades y anhelos de las personas que participan y que ello se vea materializado en su calidad de vida.
