Methodologically, a projection and statistical description of the behavior of the labor and demographic market at the national level was made, and institutional documents and research on the subject were also reviewed. One of the most relevant conclusions is that the demographic variable affects TVET due to the future reduction of the labor force. However, there are no clear institutional strategies to face the productive reconversion, increase of productivity, and detection of specific needs of the young population and the labor market. Therefore, innovative actions are proposed that could improve the management of institutions in the face of the problems identified. El presente artículo analiza la forma en que el cambio demográfico y productivo podrían afectar las acciones institucionales de la Educación y Formación Técnica Profesional (EFTP) en Costa Rica en los próximos 10 años, principalmente, en cuanto a su capacidad de anticipar las demandas de cualificación y estrategias en el largo plazo. Metodológicamente, se realizó una proyección y descripción estadística del comportamiento del mercado laboral y demográfico a nivel nacional. También se revisó documentos e investigaciones institucionales sobre el tema. Una de las conclusiones más relevantes es que la variable demográfica afecta a la EFTP debido a la reducción futura de mano de obra, sin embargo no existen estrategias institucionales claras para hacer frente a la reconversión productiva, aumento de la productividad y detección de necesidades especificas de la población joven y del mercado laboral. De tal manera, se proponen acciones innovadoras y puntuales que podrían mejorar la gestión de las instituciones frente a las problemáticas identificadas. Este artigo analisa a forma como a mudança demográfica e produtiva pode afetar as ações institucionais de Educação e Treinamento Técnico Profissional (TVET) na Costa Rica nos próximos 10 anos, principalmente em termos de sua capacidade de antecipar as demandas de qualificação e estratégias a longo prazo. Metodologicamente, foi realizada uma projeção e descrição estatística do comportamento do mercado de trabalho e da demografia a nível nacional. Documentos e pesquisas institucionais sobre o assunto também foram revisados. Uma das conclusões mais relevantes é que a variável demográfica afeta a TVET devido à futura redução da força de trabalho; entretanto, não há estratégias institucionais claras para enfrentar a reconversão produtiva, aumentar a produtividade e detectar as necessidades específicas da população jovem e do mercado de trabalho. Desta forma, são propostas ações inovadoras e específicas que poderiam melhorar a gestão das instituições diante dos problemas identificados.
