This activity has increased year by year the interest of youth all over the country and of their teachers in the conceptual understanding of the biological field, through the organization of spaces for reflection, deepening and conceptual thinking during the development of classes, workshops, trainings and academic debates. The activity is supported by various government agencies, professional associations and private institutions. The objectives of this project are to enhance students in developing their abilities, cognitive skills and attitudes and to create opportunities for professional development in tutor teachers, promoting the implementation of procedural, conceptual and attitudinal aspects in their teaching. This paper seeks to highlight these purposes. La apertura en Costa Rica de un espacio de sana competencia cognitiva en el ámbito de las Ciencias Biológicas, responde a una necesidad educativa y social. Esta actividad ha incrementado, año tras año, el interés de los jóvenes en el país y el de sus profesores en la profundización conceptual del campo biológico, a través de la organización de espacios de reflexión, profundización y reflexión conceptual durante el desarrollo de las clases, talleres, capacitaciones y encuentros de debate académico. La actividad es respaldada por distintas entidades gubernamentales, colegios profesionales e instituciones privadas. Los objetivos de este proyecto de extensión son potenciar a los estudiantes en el desarrollo de sus destrezas y habilidades cognitivas y actitudinales, y generar espacios de actualización profesional en los profesores tutores. Así se promueve la aplicación de aspectos procedimentales, conceptuales y actitudinales en su labor docente. En este trabajo se procura evidenciar estos fines.
