The activity has focused on two objectives. First, supporting and monitoring students who have expressed interest in studying a mathematics teacher. To achieve this, it has been working with students who have an ideal profile for the career, mainly from rural areas. The second objective is to conduct training workshops for high school in-service teachers, to strengthen and improve their knowledge in the area of mathematics. Among the results of the project, it can be highlighted a significant increase in the enrollment of students in the career of Mathematics Education in 2010 and 2011, and the training processes in the field of Real Functions of Real Variable and Geometry at different regional areas mostly rural as Aguirre, Sarapiquí, Coto, Buenos Aires, Limón, Cañas, Pérez Zeledón, Nicoya, Los Santos, Turrialba, Puriscal, Desamparados, San Carlos, Puntarenas, Limón, Liberia, Santa Cruz y Upala. En este artículo se describe la propuesta y las actividades realizadas en el proyecto denominado Divulgación y promoción de la carrera de Bachillerato y Licenciatura en la Enseñanza de la Matemática en zonas rurales de Costa Rica, adscrito a la Escuela de Matemática de la Universidad Nacional. La actividad se ha centrado en dos objetivos principales. El primero, brindar apoyo y seguimiento a los estudiantes que han expresado su interés de ingresar a la carrera de la Enseñanza de la matemática. Para ello, se ha trabajado con estudiantes que desean cursar dicha carrera, especialmente de zonas rurales. El segundo objetivo es fortalecer y reafirmar los conocimientos a los profesores. Para esto se han coordinado con distintas Instituciones tales como Colegio de Licenciados y Profesores, y el Instituto de Desarrollo Profesional Uladislao Gámez Solano, para impartir capacitaciones en el área de la matemática. Entre los alcances del proyecto se puede destacar un aumento significativo en la matrícula de estudiantes que cursan la carrera de Enseñanza de la Matemática en los años 2010 y 2011 y los procesos de capacitación en el tema de Funciones Reales de Variable Real y Geometría para III ciclo en distintas zonas regionales en su mayoría rurales como Aguirre, Sarapiquí, Coto, Buenos Aires, Limón, Cañas, Pérez Zeledón, Nicoya, Los Santos, Turrialba, Puriscal, Desamparados, San Carlos, Puntarenas, Limón, Liberia, Santa Cruz y Upala.
