In carrying out this review, the author distinguishes three analytical perspectives: the private, public and civil; to understand the formation of structures that defines public participation. His analysis provides a method to carry out the study of citizen participation in Latin America. This method allows studying the structures that define the state from a paradigmatic approach perspective. Having the three perspectives outlined, the author analyzes the formation of the state in Latin America, as well as the citizen participation in the definition of the democratic method. El autor argumenta que la construcción del método democrático, en la región latinoamericana, en el siglo XXI, requiere una revisión de las nociones de estado y contrato social. Para llevar a cabo esa revisión, el autor distingue tres perspectivas analíticas -lo privado, público y lo civil- para comprender la formación de las estructuras que definen la participación ciudadana. Su análisis aporta un método para llevar a cabo el estudio de la participación ciudadana en la región latinoamericana. Tal método permite estudiar las estructuras que definen al estado, desde un enfoque paradigmático. A partir de las tres perspectivas señaladas, el autor analiza la formación del estado en América Latina, así como la participación ciudadana en la definición del método democrático.
