It is this transnationalization that we are interested in exploring from the perspective of intellectual history (Altamirano, 2005, Palti, 2004-2005), breaking with a unidirectional idea of transfers and circulations, in order to understand the exchange and connections between regions, ideas and people. The article first focuses on explaining the particularity of the German Political Foundations and the functioning of the FES in Latin America and then goes on to explore three intellectual projects of the Foundation, such as the Latin American Institutes for Social Science Research (ILDIS), the Center for Democratic Studies of Latin America (CEDAL) and the New Society Journal (NUSO). Based on the premise that ideas are important insofar as they conveyed meanings and representations in the region, this paper seeks to map the little known but strong presence of the FES in Latin America during the Cold War years. And how it became an important platform capable of connecting people, ideas and regions. In this framework, the FES, and this is our bet, can be thought of as an intellectual network that, while participating in and promoting debates on development, dependence, anti-imperialism, revolution and democracy, was building a space for indigenous social democracy. La promoción de la democracia fue, desde sus orígenes, una de las banderas de la Fundación Friedrich Ebert (FES), vinculada ideológicamente al Partido Socialdemócrata Alemán (SPD) y que desembarcó en América Latina en los años sesenta. Esta transnacionalización es la que nos interesa explorar desde la historia intelectual (Altamirano, 2005, Palti, 2004-2005), rompiendo con una idea unidireccional de las transferencias y las circulaciones, para comprender el intercambio y las conexiones entre regiones, ideas y personas. El artículo primero, se centra en explicar la particularidad de las Fundaciones Políticas alemanas y el funcionamiento de la FES en América Latina y, después, pasa a explorar tres proyectos intelectuales de la Fundación como fueron los Institutos Latinoamericanos de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales (ILDIS), el Centro de Estudios Democráticos de América latina (CEDAL) y la Revista Nueva Sociedad (NUSO). Partiendo de la premisa que las ideas son importantes en tanto vehiculizaron sentidos y representaciones en la región, este trabajo busca mapear la poco conocida, pero fuerte presencia que tuvo la FES en América Latina en los años de la Guerra Fría. Y cómo esta se convirtió en una importante plataforma capaz de conectar personas, ideas y regiones. En este armado la FES, y esa es nuestra apuesta, puede ser pensada como una red intelectual que, al paso que participaba e impulsaba debates sobre el desarrollo, la dependencia, el antiimperialismo, la revolución y la democracia, fue construyendo un espacio para la socialdemocracia autóctona. A promoção da democracia foi, desde a sua origem, uma das bandeiras da Fundação Friedrich Ebert (FES), ideologicamente ligada ao Partido Social Democrata Alemão (SPD) e que desembarcou na América Latina nos anos 1960. É esta transnacionalização que nos interessa explorar na perspetiva da história intelectual (Altamirano, 2005, Palti, 2004-2005), rompendo com uma ideia unidirecional de transferências e circulações, para compreender as trocas e ligações entre regiões, ideias e pessoas. O artigo começa por explicar a particularidade das Fundações Políticas Alemãs e o funcionamento da FES na América Latina, passando depois a explorar três projectos intelectuais da Fundação, como os Institutos Latino-Americanos de Investigação em Ciências Sociais (ILDIS), o Centro de Estudos Democráticos da América Latina (CEDAL) e a Revista Nova Sociedade (NUSO).
