El presente artículo pretende realizar una breve reseña sobre la evolución normativa internacional en materia de lucha contra la discriminación y las violencias contra las mujeres, incluyendo a algunas normas como un factor de desigualdad, así como los esfuerzos articulados internacionalmente para su erradicación; la creación de los mecanismos de protección en el sistema interamericano y el desarrollo de los principales estándares de la jurisprudencia de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (Corte IDH), concluyendo con una breve reflexión acerca de la situación que afronta Costa Rica respecto a este fenómeno. Este artigo visa fornecer uma breve panorâmica da evolução normativa internacional na luta contra a discriminação e violência contra as mulheres, incluindo algumas normas como factor de desigualdade, bem como esforços internacionalmente articulados para a sua erradicação; a criação de mecanismos de protecção no Sistema Interamericano e o desenvolvimento das principais normas da jurisprudência da Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos (CIDH), concluindo com uma breve reflexão sobre a situação enfrentada pela Costa Rica no que diz respeito a este fenómeno.
