The research hypothesis proposed that the average cargo transported by the Panama Canal would decrease after 2018 compared to 2017. Various descriptive methods were applied in the research. Geopolitics, its backgrounds, and application were treated. Likewise, the evolution of international trade and its link to direct investment are reviewed. The research examines the behavior of international and national maritime transport. The research concluded that, indeed, the trade war has negatively affected both domestic and international maritime transport. La investigación se propuso establecer el efecto que ha causado la geopolítica del comercio internacional implementada por la administración norteamericana entre 2017 a 2021 sobre la actividad marítima internacional y nacional. La hipótesis de investigación sugirió que la misma descendería después de 2017. En la investigación se aplicaron diversos métodos descriptivos. Se le brindó tratamiento a la geopolítica, sus antecedentes y aplicación. Igualmente, se revisa la evolución del comercio internacional y su vinculación a las inversiones directas. La investigación examina el comportamiento del transporte marítimo internacional y nacional. Se concluye en que, en efecto, la guerra comercial ha afectado negativamente tanto el transporte marítimo doméstico e internacional.
