A quantitative, prospective study with intervention was carried out. The sampling was by census of applicants for the psychology service. During both periods, 101 patients were registered, 51 in the basal phase, of which 33 were registered as discharged, obtaining the highest percentage with 64.70%. During the second phase of implementation of the filter by algorithm, 50 patients were registered, of which 11 were discharged, obtaining a decrease to 22%. Five (9.8%) referrals were made during the first phase. After the algorithm, 15 (30%) were recorded. The implementation of an algorithm for attention and referral of patients in the area of psychology to open population significantly reduces the discharges of therapeutic processes, a situation so far little explored in Psychology. Implementar un algoritmo para filtro de pacientes en el área de psicología clínica a población abierta en un centro del Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) Municipal, a fin de eficientar el servicio que se brinda a los usuarios y disminuir el abandono de procesos terapéuticos. Se llevó a cabo un estudio de tipo cuantitativo, prospectivo con intervención. El muestreo fue por censo de solicitantes del servicio de psicología. Durante ambos periodos se registraron 101 pacientes, 51 en fase basal, de los cuales 33 se registraron como bajas obteniendo el mayor porcentaje con el 64.70%. Durante la segunda fase, de implementación del filtro por algoritmo, se registraron 50 pacientes, de los cuales 11 fueron bajas, obteniendo disminución a 22%. En cuanto a las canalizaciones, se realizaron 5 (9.8%)durante la primera fase. Posterior al algoritmo se registraron 15 (30%). La implementación de un algoritmo para atención y canalización de pacientes en el área de psicología a población abierta disminuye significativamente las bajas de procesos terapéuticos, situación hasta ahora poco explorada en Psicología.
