It begins with a conceptualization of cultural globalization, followed by a critical review of some basic assumptions of cross-cultural research on social psychology. The article ends with some examples of research on this area, which attempt to overcome the traditional model of cross-cultural research, and highlight the need of its reformulation. El presente artículo ofrece una evaluación crítica de la investigación intercultural en psicología social a la luz del actual proceso de globalización cultural. Se inicia con una conceptualización de la globalización cultural, para continuar con una revisión crítica de algunas de las premisas básicas de la investigación intercultural en psicología social. Por último, se presentan, a manera de ejemplo, algunos resultados de investigación en el área, que son un intento por superar el modelo de estudio intercultural, planteando la necesidad de su reformulación.
