CASO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL, COSTA RICA Rodríguez Pineda, Magaly Artavia Aguilar, Cindy Vanessa COSTA RICA HIGHER EDUCATION EDUCATIONAL OUTPUT CULTURE COSTA RICA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR RENDIMIENTO DE LA EDUCACIÓN CULTURA The subject of this research is centred in demonstrating whether a higher economic and cultural capital implies a better academic performance. As a theoretical framework, the study applies Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Claude Passeron’s Social Reproduction Theory, as presented in 1972 by the French sociologists in their work entitled Reproduction in Education, Society and Culture. The operationalization was conducted using a multiple regression model. The results demonstrated that the students with higher academic performance come from districts with a medium or high Social Development Index, meaning they are able to commit full-time to their studies. Moreover, they come from homes consisting of a head of household and a spouse, with a positive learning environment and adequate structural conditions. El tema de esta investigación se centra en demostrar si un mayor capital económico y cultural implica un mayor rendimiento académico. Se utilizó como marco teórico la Teoría de la Reproducción desarrollada por los sociólogos franceses Pierre Bourdieu y Jean-Claude Passeron en 1972, en el libro titulado La Reproducción, elementos de una teoría del sistema de enseñanza. La operacionalización se realizó mediante un modelo de regresión múltiple. Los resultados mostraron que quienes tienen mayor rendimiento son estudiantes que provienen de distritos cuyo Índice de Desarrollo Social es alto o medio; con la posibilidad de dedicarse tiempo completo a sus estudios, provenientes de hogares compuestos por jefe y cónyuge, cuyo clima educativo es alto y en viviendas con buena condición en su estructura física.
