This article reviews the ideological context of Socialism of the xxi century, the economic context of Correato, and the impact of economic policies in the canton of Riobamba. The economic growth of Riobamba was based on construction, transportation, and manufacturing. The policies implemented during the “Correato” led to an increase in public debt to sustain economicgrowth. However, starting in 2015, growth stops, and economic and social variables beginto recede. La evolución política y económica de Ecuador durante el periodo 2007-2017, confluye alrededor del gobierno de Rafael Correa, conocido como el periodo del “Correato”. El artículo revisa el contexto ideológico del Socialismo del siglo xxi, el contexto económico del Correato y el impacto de las políticas económicas en el cantón Riobamba. El crecimiento económico de Riobamba se basó en las áreas de construcción, transporte y manufactura. Las políticas implementadas durante el “Correato” provocaron un aumento de la deuda pública para sostener el crecimiento económico. No obstante, a partir de 2015, el crecimiento se detiene, y las variables económicas y sociales empiezan a retroceder.
