This article approaches the problem of freedom of expression from the viewpoint of different perspectives of political philosophy that have problematized the issue. What can we understand by the concept of freedom of expression? How has such concept been understood by political philosophy and other relevant perspectives? Those are the questions that provoke us in this article. Besides that, the questions of political control of media and the production of public opinion are introduced with the purpose of analyzing which mechanisms of persuasion can be utilized by mass media operators not just in the construction of public opinion but also as an impediment for the full exercise of freedom of expression. Keywords: Freedom of expression, Right of Communication, Media, Political Control El presente artículo aborda el problema de la libertad de expresión, contempla distintas perspectivas de la filosofía política que han problematizado al respecto: ¿Qué podemos entender por el concepto libertad de expresión? ¿Cómo ha sido abordado por la filosofía política y otras perspectivas relevantes? Tales son los principales cuestionamientos que nos provocan esbozar estas páginas. Adicionalmente, se aborda el tema del control político de los medios de comunicación y la construcción de la opinión pública, con el fin de analizar los mecanismos de persuasión que pueden ser utilizados por los medios de comunicación masiva, no solo en la construcción de la opinión pública, sino en la obstaculización de un ejercicio pleno de la libertad de expresión.
