Respect for human rights contributesdirectly to reducing the causes of tension andinstability in a country, the most dangeroussource of the latter is the economic, so that USsupport for human rights is also given from aneconomic dimension, besides the promotionof human rights it is the only one who can offera long term solution of one of the major issueson the international agenda: the problemof refugees. La política exterior de los Estados Unidosestá conformado por tres principales categoríasde derechos humanos: a) el derecho a laintegridad personal, b) el derecho a satisfacerlas necesidades eco y c) los derechos civiles ypolíticos. El respeto de los derechos humanoscontribuye de forma directa a disminuir lascausas de tensión e inestabilidad de un país,la fuente más peligrosa de esta última es lade carácter económico, por lo que en EstadosUnidos el apoyo a los derechos humanos tambiénse da desde una dimensión económica,además el fomento de los derechos humanoses el único que puede ofrecer una solución alargo plazo de uno de los principales problemasde la agenda internacional: el problemade los refugiados.
