Based on secondary sources, it presents a synthesis of the main impacts that have deepened the gender inequalities and violence against women that existed before the pandemic, especially in the field of work and care. It emphasizes that, to reverse its negative effects and avoid the deepening of inequalities, in the long term, it requires the incorporation of the needs and interests of women in the approach to the emergency. Autonomy and equal participation of women are also critical in the decision-making process and the elaboration of public policies for mitigation and recovery from the economic and social crises caused by the health pandemic. Este artículo da una mirada, con un enfoque de igualdad de género, a los principales efectos de la pandemia por Covid-19 para las mujeres en América Latina y el Caribe. Con base en fuentes secundarias, presenta una síntesis de los principales impactos que han profundizado las desigualdades y la violencia de género existentes antes de la pandemia, especialmente en el ámbito del trabajo y los cuidados. Hace énfasis en que, para revertir sus efectos negativos y evitar la profundización de las desigualdades a largo plazo, requiere de la incorporación de las necesidades y los intereses de las mujeres en el abordaje de la emergencia, así como la autonomía y la participación igualitaria de las mujeres en las decisiones y elaboración de políticas públicas de mitigación y recuperación de las crisis económicas y sociales provocadas por la pandemia sanitaria.
