The objective of this article is to analyze the role of the Costa Rican epistemic community of human rights in the diffusion of the human security approach. The study suggests that human rights community have played an ambiguous role in spreading the human security approach in Costa Rica, which ranks between acceptance and rejection. In addition, this research finds that the mechanisms of coercion, competition, and socialization may have an influence on actors other than the State or government, such as international organizations. Los estudios de difusión de políticas pocas veces explican el papel que pueden desempeñar las comunidades epistémicas como promotores o bloqueadores de la difusión de una idea, norma o política. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el rol de la comunidad epistémica costarricense de derechos humanos en la difusión del enfoque de seguridad humana. El estudio sugiere que la comunidad de derechos humanos ha jugado un papel ambiguo en la difusión del enfoque de seguridad humana en Costa Rica, que se sitúa entre la aceptación y el rechazo. Adicionalmente, esta investigación encuentra que los mecanismos de coerción, competencia y socialización pueden tener influencia en actores distintos al Estado o al gobierno, como las organizaciones internacionales.
