This article provides a review of laws, regulations, and protection programs aimed at individuals over 60 years old in seven Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, it examines the national and international regulations and agreements in which each of these countries participates. The main laws and protection programs for older adults in each mentioned countryare highlighted, with a focus on the aspects they address, particularly in terms of labor rights, access to healthcare, and housing. Method. documentary review of current national and international laws and conventions was conducted in each participating country. This analysis was carried out with a qualitative approach, aiming to identify areas for improvement and potential legal gaps in the protectionof the rights of older persons in these countries. Additionally, an examination was made on how these regulations address aspects related to economic security, healthcare, social participation, combating abuse and discrimination, labor rights, and access to housing. Results. The countries guarantee fundamental rights for older adults, including health, social security, housing, food, and social and culturalparticipation. However, disparities are observed in the presence of regulations and programs in specific areas. Conclusions. While the studied countries are signatories to the most important international conventions on the rights of older persons, and despite their progress in developing laws and regulations for their compliance, thisdoes not guarantee effective implementation. Therefore, further studies are needed to delve into the implementation aspect to identify possible gaps and challenges. Introducción. Este artículo ofrece una revisión de las leyes y de los programas de protección, dirigidos a las personas adultas mayores en siete países latinoamericanos y del Caribe (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, México y República Dominicana); es decir, se identifican los aspectos que estas leyes y programas abordan en el contexto de cada uno de los países participantes, especialmente, en cuanto a derechos laborales, acceso a servicios de salud y de vivienda, pero, también se examinan los acuerdos internacionales en torno a esta población. Método. El análisis de la revisión documental tuvo un enfoque cualitativo, con el propósito de identificar áreas de mejora y posibles vacíos legales en la protección de los derechos de las personas adultas mayores, relacionadas con seguridad económica, atención médica, participación social, lucha contra el abuso y la discriminación, derechos laborales y el acceso a vivienda. Resultados. Los países participantes garantizan derechos fundamentales para las personas adultas mayores en las áreas de la salud, la seguridad social, la vivienda, la alimentación y la participación social y cultural. Sin embargo, se observan disparidades en las leyes y programas de protección en áreas específicas. Conclusiones. Si bien, los países estudiados son signatarios de las más importantes convenciones internacionales en materia de derechos de las personas adultas mayores, y han progresado en el desarrollo de leyes para su cumplimiento, ello no garantiza una implementación eficaz. Por consiguiente, se requieren más estudios que puedan adentrarse en este aspecto para identificar las posibles brechas y desafíos presentes. Introdução. Este artigo oferece uma análise das leis e dos programas de proteção voltados para os idosos em sete países da América Latina e do Caribe (Argentina, Bolívia, Chile, Colômbia, Costa Rica, México e República Dominicana); em outras palavras, identifica os aspectos que essas leis e programas abordam nocontexto de cada um dos países participantes, especialmente em termos de direitos trabalhistas, acesso a serviços de saúde e moradia, mas também examina os acordos internacionais relativos a essa população. Método. A análise da revisãodocumental teve uma abordagem qualitativa, com o objetivo de identificar áreas de melhoria e possíveis “lacunas” legais na proteção dos direitos dos idosos, relacionadas à segurança econômica, assistência médica, participação social, combate ao abuso e à discriminação, direitos trabalhistas e acesso à moradia. Resultados. Os países participantes garantem os direitos fundamentais dos idososnas áreas de saúde, seguridade social, moradia, alimentação e participação social e cultural. Entretanto, são observadas disparidades nas leis e nos programas de proteção em áreas específicas. Conclusões. Embora os países estudados sejam signatários das mais importantes convenções internacionais sobre os direitos dosidosos e tenham progredido no desenvolvimento de leis para sua aplicação, isso não garante a implementação efetiva. Portanto, são necessários mais estudos para analisar esse aspecto a fim de identificar possíveis lacunas e desafios.
