[Objective]:Analyze the role of the social approach as a perspective of rapprochement in the process of social viability, prior to the incorporation of renewableenergy generation projects. [Methodology]: A descriptive documentary research was carried out on the social approach as a perspective on the socialviability of the communities towards renewable energy generation projects. [Result]: There are aspects in the social approach of a community that allowidentifying whether or not a renewable energy generation project is socially viable; allowing to anticipate the investment of resources. [Conclusion]: Asocial approach methodology must be developed that allows to know the context of the reality of a community and thus define the approach to identify thesocial viability of an electricity generation project from renewable sources. [Introducción]: La generación de energía a partir de fuentes renovables brinda una oportunidad mundial para combatir el cambio climático y la crisis energética, causados por la dependencia de la dinámica humana a los combustibles fósiles; sin embargo, aun cuando la generación de energías renovables forma parte de los Objetivos del Desarrollo Sostenible existen diversas experiencias en la incorporación de proyectos en donde las comunidades, aceptan o rechazan sin importar los beneficios que estos puedan traer. [Objetivo]: Analizar el papel del abordaje social como perspectiva de acercamiento en el proceso de la viabilidad social, previo a la incorporación de proyectos de generación de energía renovables. [Metodología]: Se realizó una investigación documental de carácter descriptiva sobre el abordaje social como perspectiva en la viabilidad social por parte de las comunidades hacia proyectos de generación de energías renovables. [Resultado]: Existen aspectos en el abordaje social de una comunidad que permiten identificar si es viable socialmente o no, un proyecto de generación de energía renovable; permitiendo anticipar la inversión de recursos. [Conclusión]: Se debe desarrollar una metodología de abordaje social que permita conocer el contexto de la realidad de una comunidad y así definir la forma de acercamiento para identificar la viabilidad social de un proyecto de generación eléctrica a partir de fuentes renovables.
