The current social challenges of contact and relationships with other people in the face of the necessary protection from the risk of contagion of the coronavirus and life in capital letters, requires an understanding on the part of higher education authorities worldwide. This article describes the behavior trends, in social relationships and daily life, by the student population from the National University of Costa Rica (UNA), Chorotega Branch Campus Liberia, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. 182 students were involved, under a descriptive phase quantitative study. The results of the study indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic caused social distancing in the population under study, altering trends in behavior, lifestyle, which in the face of confinement abruptly modified social contact, causing an exponential increase in the use of technological tools to mediate communication. Los desafíos sociales actuales de contacto y relaciones con otras personas ante la necesaria protección del riesgo de contagio del coronavirus y la vida en mayúscula, requiere de una comprensión por parte de las autoridades de educación superior a nivel global. En este artículo se describen las tendencias del comportamiento, en las relaciones sociales y vida cotidiana, por parte de la población estudiantil de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Sede Región Chorotega, Campus Liberia en el contexto de la pandemia del COVID-19. Se involucraron a 182 estudiantes, bajo un estudio cuantitativo de fase descriptiva. Los resultados del estudio indican que la pandemia de la COVID-19 provocó distanciamientos sociales en la población en estudio, alterando las tendencias del comportamiento, estilo de vida, el cual ante el confinamiento modificó abruptamente el contacto social provocando un aumento exponencial en el uso de herramientas tecnológicas para mediar en la comunicación.
