In order for architecture to be understood in terms of cultural identity, the author addresses one of the crucial problems that exist within theories such as Critical Regionalism that restrict themselves to discussions of form. It argues that a highly suggestive model for understanding the relationship between physical form and cultural identity — ‘belonging’ — can be drawn from Judith Butler’s work on “performativity”. Este artículo trata de ofrecer un modelo que podría ayudar a explicar cómo es que las personas desarrollan un sentido de lugar y cómo se identifican con él. A fin de que la arquitectura pueda ser comprendida en términos de identidad cultural, el autor aborda uno de los problemas cruciales que existen dentro de la teoría de la arquitectura como lo es el Regionalismo Crítico el cual se limita a un discurso de la forma. Por medio de un sugerente modelo, el autor argumenta que, para entender la relación entre la forma física y la identidad cultural, el sentido de “pertenencia” podría ser inferido de la noción de “performatividad” desarrollada en la obra de Judith Butler.
