For this, a contextual framework on modernity and psychotherapy is exposed. Then, through a hermeneutical methodology, both interpretative focuses are developed. The first (in favor) converges on how modernity has promoted the scientific status of psychotherapy, while the second (against) focuses on the epistemological implications of modernity in clinical practice. Finally, reflects on some possibilities of integration of the debate are presented through analogical hermeneutics and Feyerabend's epistemological pluralism. Este artículo se propone analizar dos focos interpretativos en torno a la modernidad en psicoterapia: uno que describe sus aciertos, posicionándose a favor de la modernidad y otro que representa sus desaciertos en la disciplina, situándose en contra de ella. Para ello se expone un marco contextual sobre la modernidad y sobre la psicoterapia. Luego, mediante una metodología hermenéutica, se desarrollan ambos focos interpretativos. El primero (a favor) converge en cómo la modernidad ha promovido el estatus científico de la psicoterapia, por su parte, el segundo (en contra) se centra en las implicancias epistemológicas de la modernidad en la práctica clínica. Finalmente, se reflexiona sobre algunas posibilidades de integración del debate mediante la hermenéutica analógica y el pluralismo epistemológico de Feyerabend.
