El aprendizaje apoyado en ellos presenta grandes beneficios como la movilidad o posibilidad de acceso en cualquier momento y lugar, con lo que se rompen las barreras de tiempo y espacio. Esta modalidad puede considerarse como un complemento del e-learning (aprendizaje en línea o virtual); ambos no son solo parte de la modalidad educativa a distancia, sino que de hecho ya que muchas instituciones los utilizan para apoyo a los procesos de aprendizaje. El uso de tales dispositivos y sus aplicaciones implica adaptar materiales digitales con el fin de que sean mejor aprovechados. A continuación se muestran algunas experiencias desarrolladas por instituciones educativas a nivel mundial, así como el camino que está siguiendo la Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) de Costa Rica para implementar el aprendizaje móvil en su modelo didáctico.Palabras clave: Mobile learning, e-learning, virtualidad, plataformas de aprendizaje, teléfonos inteligentes, tabletas, movilidad.AbstractThe mobile learning is a trend that has been generated because of the great advances in smart devices. This kind of learning has great benefits such as mobility or ability to access at any time and place, breaking the barriers of time and space. This mode can be considered as a supplement to e-learning (online learning or virtual), both are not only part of a distance learning mode, in fact many institutions use them to support learning processes. The use of such devices involves adapting digital materials in order to improve its use. Here are some experiences developed by educational institutions.
