Although it is a subjectivist view that prevails in this analysis, it is focused on some clues and on the author’s own analysis as a suggestion. While Jaime Sabines, a poet from the south of Mexico, could be near the Dionysian trend; Octavio Paz, meanwhile, approaches more to the Apollonian way. Both poets shared a creative life during about fifty years. Although the labels that associate Sabines with one force or identify Octavio Paz with the other force established by Nietzsche, both are referents for Mexican poets of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. El presente artículo sugiere que la poesía mexicana contemporánea, a partir del siglo XX, se fundó por medio de dos grandes fuerzas creadoras, tal y como lo concibió Friedrich Nietzsche en su obra El origen de la tragedia. Aunque es una visión subjetivista la que priva en este estudio, se basa en algunos indicios y el propio análisis del autor como una sugerencia, donde Jaime Sabines -poeta del sur de México- se puede identificar con lo dionisiaco; entre tanto, Octavio Paz se identifica más con lo apolíneo. Los dos poetas compartieron una franja de vida creativa de alrededor de cincuenta años. Indistintamente de las etiquetas que asocian a Sabines con una fuerza y a Paz se le identifique con la otra fuerza que estableció Nietzsche, ambos son referentes para los/las poetas mexicanos/as de los siglos XX y XXI.
