The arguments focus on religion and philosophy, generally considered opposite, dissociated or overlapping. The question is: How important is the religious factor when thinking about the need for one’s own Latin American philosophy To answer this question, an explanation about philosophy and religion is made. Secondly, religion is analyzed as and innate characteristic or not to human beings, as well as some reflections on the relationship between religion and philosophy through History, and the meaning of Eurocentric thought. Thirdly, what is the significance of the religious factor in Salazar Bondy’s proposal. Fourthly, due to Salazar’s critical analysis of the possibility of an authentic Latin American thought is doubtful, the contributions of Marxist José Carlos Mariátegui on this subject, 40 years before, are considered an example. Finally, the Liberation Theology is explained not like a “philosophy” but like creation of a Latin American thought that took into account “the religious factor” of these communities. At the end, this essay proposes four reflections instead of final conclusions. Este ensayo explora el tema de lo religioso en el debate por la creación de una filosofía latinoamericana en la obra de Augusto Salazar Bondy en los años sesenta del siglo XX. Se trata de dos campos: la religión y la filosofía, las cuales por lo general han sido presentadas de forma antagónica, disociada o una superpuesta a la otra. La pregunta que nos planteamos es: ¿qué importancia tiene el factor religioso cuando se piensa en la necesidadde tener una filosofía latinoamericana como pensamiento propio? Para responder esta interrogante, se procede de la siguiente manera: primero, se hace una explicación de lo que se entiende por religión y por filosofía; segundo, se analiza si la religión es un elemento innato en el ser humano o no, seguido de algunas reflexiones de la relación entre filosofía y religión en algunos periodos de la historia, y la trascendencia que tiene el pensamiento eurocéntrico; en tercer lugar, se expone cómo ha sido la presencia (o cuál ha sido la importancia) de lo religioso en la propuesta iniciada por Salazar Bondy respecto a la necesidad de tener una filosofía auténtica en América Latina (tema que sigue aún en discusión); cuarto, dado que el análisis crítico de Salazar pone en entredicho la existencia y posibilidad de un pensamiento propio latinoamericano, se explica el contexto en el que él levanta su cuestionamiento, y se muestran a manera de ilustración los aportes dados por el marxista José Carlos Mariátegui -el Amauta- cuarenta años antes que Salazar Bondy, respecto al “factor religioso” (él se refiere al Perú, pero sirve para el resto de América Latina); seguidamente, se señala la contribución de la Teología de la Liberación, no como “filosofía” sino como creación de un pensamiento propio latinoamericano, que tomó en cuenta “el factor religioso” de los pueblos latinoamericanos, en la línea que había señalado Mariátegui. El ensayo no termina con “conclusiones”, sino que señala cuatro reflexiones que nos invitan a seguir investigando sobre el tema.
