Next, the importance of the magazine as a publication of the Universidad Nacional is raised, as well as the need for García Monge’s legacy in relation to cultural dissemination and production to be part of the “necessary university”. Finally, the needs, challenges, and influence that Repertorio Americano suffereddue to the transformation of the cultural journal into an academic journal are studied, both in its cofiguration as a cultural , epistemological and printedproduct, and the current challenges. For this purpose, it is intended to make an analysis from the journal itself and not from the figure of its editor, since there is a diversity of studies on García Monge. Este artículo presenta de manera breve la historia de la revista en su fase cultural a lo largo de 39 años en que Joaquín García Monge estuvo a cargo. Seguidamente, se plantea la importancia de la revista como publicación adscrita a la Universidad Nacional, así mismo cómo la necesidad de que el legado garcimongeano referente a la producción y difusión culturales formara parte de la “universidad necesaria”. Por último, se abordan las necesidades, cambios e influencia que sufrió Repertorio Americano debido a la transformación de la revista cultural a revista académica, tanto en su configuración como producto cultural, epistemológico e impreso y los desafíos que presenta en la actualidad. Para esto, se pretende hacer un análisis desde la revista misma y no desde la figura del editor, ya que sobre García Monge versa una diversidad de textos.
