Consequently, we must consider exile as a process of search for power and ideological confrontation. La Guerra Civil de 1948 en Costa Rica provocó el exilio de costarricenses del grupo de perdedores y de militantes comunistas. Antes de la Revolución Sandinista (1979), también se produce un éxodo de nicaragüenses antisomocistas hacia Costa Rica. Por lo tanto, hay que considerar el exilio como un proceso dentro de la lucha por el poder y del choque ideológico.
