In this work, concerning keys are implicit in the life of the female characters in García Monge and their experiences, thus allowing to establish a descriptive and comparative analysis of the role of women in the society of Guanacaste. In the stories of Joaquín García Monge, we are invited to travel into the past and be accomplices of events experienced by women who evoke lifestyles, prejudices and very latent stereotypes today, thus linking the past with the present and assess the future from this view. This reflection joins the struggle for gender equality, highlighting the progress made and the challenges to be solved according to the voice, contributions, and perceptions of women from Guanacaste, academic and students of the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Chorotega Regional Branch, Campus Liberia. El propósito fundamental de la presente comunicación es promover un diálogo sobre el rol de la mujer en la obra literaria de Joaquín García Monge (1881-1958) y su reflejo en la sociedad de Guanacaste de ayer y de hoy. En esta obra, se encuentran referentes claves implícitos en la vida de los personajes femeninos de García Monge y sus vivencias, permitiendo así establecer un análisis descriptivo y comparativo con el rol de la mujer en la sociedad guanacasteca. En los relatos de Joaquín García Monge, se nos invita a viajar al pasado y ser cómplices de acontecimientos vividos por mujeres que evocan estilos de vida, prejuicios y estereotipos muy latentes hoy para, de esta manera, enlazar el pasado con el presente y valorar el futuro desde esta concepción. Esta reflexión se une a la lucha por la igualdad de género y destaca los avances logrados y los desafíos por resolver según la voz, los aportes y las percepciones de las mujeres guanacastecas, académicas y estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Sede Regional Chorotega, Campus Liberia.
