In this sense, it is necessary to reflect on these global trends in the context of Honduran public universities, in order to ensure the competitiveness of professionals graduated from them and to support the necessary arguments to ensure that the Honduran State meets the young people who demand their admission to the University. Method: In order to carry out this research, the bibliographic method was used to establish a  theoretical framework on current trends in college education. Objective: The objective of this essay is to analyze four trends in   college education: information and communication technologies (ICT) in the context of IES, government funding, teacher training and internationalization. Conclusion: The reflection is based on the lack and limitations in the execution of actions in Honduran public  College Educacion Institutions (IES), where funding is austere, lacking for the development of operational tasks and teacher training marked by resistance to change expressed with previous paradigms of teaching-learning. Introducción: La educación superior, para satisfacer la demanda de la sociedad actual, se enfrenta a nivel internacional con diferentes tendencias y desafíos. En ese sentido, se hace necesario reflexionar sobre estas tendencias globales en el contexto de las universidades públicas hondureñas, en aras de asegurar la competitividad de los profesionales egresados de estas y apoyar los argumentos necesarios para que se garantice que el Estado hondureño cumpla con los jóvenes que demandan su ingreso a la Universidad. Método: Para llevar a cabo esta investigación se empleó el método bibliográfico a fin de establecer un estado del arte  sobre las tendencias actuales en educación superior. Objetivo: Este ensayo tiene como objetivo analizar cuatro tendencias de la educación superior; las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) en el contexto de las IES, el financiamiento gubernamental, la formación docente y la internacionalización. Conclusión: La reflexión se basa en la carencia y limitantes de ejecución de acciones en las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) públicas hondureñas, donde el financiamiento es austero, carente para el desarrollo de labores operativas y una formación docente marcada por la resistencia al cambio expresada con antiguos paradigmas de enseñanza-aprendizaje.
