Both are inexorable within the international system, whose functioning and configuration shows that anarchy provides the actors, especially the State, with rational behaviors apart from individualistic ones. This leads to a kind of social “Darwinism”, where the strongest is in charge of establishing the temporary world order, subordinated to the life of the hegemony empire. Throughout the history of humanity and with the multiple lessons learned, human beings have made different attempts to establish order in the international system through good will to the detriment of violence. They seek to establish norms capable of regulating, allowing, or prohibiting conduct on the actors. Each of the attempts has been limited by the impossibility of partially renouncing the power held by the superpowers. For it, a brief historical review is presented below, where chaos is identified as the common denominator. Chaos is understood as the systemic susceptibility to possible disturbances that lead to a reordering of the international system, or at least, an attempt to achieve it. The above, using some theoretical approaches from International Relations, in order to make final reflections, which propose how the incidence of chaos can be reduced in favor of order. El orden y el caos, términos mitológicos adoptados por las ciencias exactas para explicar la posibilidad o la imposibilidad de predecir la conducta de los fenómenos naturales, respectivamente, son dos conceptos extrapolados a las Relaciones Internacionales. Ambos, son inexorables dentro del sistema internacional, cuyo funcionamiento y configuración evidencia que la anarquía provee a los actores, especialmente al Estado, conductas racionales aparte de individualistas, conllevando una especie de “darwinismo” social, donde el más fuerte es el encargado de establecer el orden mundial temporal, supeditado a la vida del imperio hegemónico. A lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, y con las múltiples lecciones aprendidas, los seres humanos han presentado distintos intentos por establecer un orden al sistema internacional por medio de la buena voluntad en detrimento de la violencia, buscando establecer normas capaces de regular, permitir o prohibir conductas sobre los actores; no obstante, cada uno de los intentos se han visto limitados ante la imposibilidad de renunciar parcialmente al poder que ostentan las superpotencias. Por ello, a continuación se presenta un breve repaso histórico, donde se identifica al caos como el común denominador, entendido como la susceptibilidad sistémica a las posibles perturbaciones que derivan en un reordenamiento del sistema internacional, o al menos, un intento por conseguirlo; lo anterior, utilizando algunas aproximaciones teóricas de las Relaciones Internacionales, con el fin de realizar reflexiones finales, que plantean cómo se puede reducir la incidencia del caos en favor del orden.
