Methodologically, this research is composed of two phases. The first, a descriptive statistics analysis of the Multidimensional Poverty Index and the Human Development one, was carried out, departing from the definitions of territoriality used in Costa Rica (rural-urban and by planning regions) with county-level data. In second place, a cluster analysis, with K-means method, was developed with a database of 32 variables for development and poverty at the country level. About the results, we discovered that the typologies of rural and urban areas are significant but can be self-explanatory; the category of planning regions reveals relevant patterns in the center-periphery dynamics, particularly due to asymmetries between the center, the Pacific coast and, the Atlantic coast and borders. The cluster analysis confirms these patterns, showing that in terms of development, the country seems to be divided into 3 regions, while in terms of poverty is possible to identify 4. Concluding with some public and economic policy recommendations. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar las relaciones entre diferentes dimensiones de la pobreza y desarrollo, desde una perspectiva multidimensional y espacial. Metodológicamente, la investigación se compone de dos fases. En la primera se realiza un análisis de estadística descriptiva de los datos del Índice de Pobreza Multidimensional e Índice de Desarrollo Humano a nivel cantonal según las definiciones de territorialidad empleadas en Costa Rica (rural-urbana y por regiones de planificación). En la segunda parte, se realiza un análisis de clústeres, utilizando el método de k-medias, con una base de datos de 32 variables a nivel cantonal sobre desarrollo y pobreza. Se descubre que las tipologías de zona rural y urbana son significativas, pero pueden ser autoexplicativas; la categoría de regiones de planificación revela patrones relevantes en las dinámicas centro-periferia, particularmente por asimetrías entre centro, costa pacífica y costa atlántica, y fronteras. El análisis de clústeres confirma estos patrones, mostrando que, en términos de desarrollo, el país parece dividirse en 3 regiones, mientras que en términos de pobreza se identifican 4. Finalmente, se concluye con recomendaciones de política pública y económica.
