Appropriate measures must be necessary for the space in which it required to influence, and culminative and cumulative results is preferable. Nowadays, different indicators and metrics are developing, so navigating the field can be difficult without an idea of the big picture. The objective of this article is to make a brief review of the current state of affairs on the discussion of welfare measures. Considering objective and subjective orientations, the approach of resources, quality of life, subjective well-being is presented, as well as sustainability, which is a cross-cutting theme to all of them. Its main characteristics, advantages, and shortcomings are also shown, as well as possible relations and interactions between them. We conclude that appropriate metrics must be selected for a scientific and responsible implementation of public policy, those representative for the initial conditions and the incidence, as a synthesis between concreteness and representativeness. La medición del desarrollo o bienestar es clave a la hora de implementar política pública. Deben elegirse medidas apropiadas a los objetivos que delimiten el campo en el que se desea incidir, y que den cuenta de resultados culminativos y cumulativos. En la actualidad se han desarrollado numerosos indicadores y métricas, por lo que navegar en este campo puede ser difícil sin un panorama general. Este escrito tiene por objetivo hacer un breve repaso al estado actual de la discusión sobre las medidas del bienestar. Abordándose las orientaciones objetivas y subjetivas, se presentan los enfoques de recursos, calidad de vida, subjetivos y la sustentabilidad, que es tema transversal a todos ellos. Se muestran asimismo sus principales características, cualidades y falencias, así como posibles relaciones e interacciones entre métricas. Se concluye que en la implementación científica y responsable de política pública deben elegirse las métricas apropiadas, que den cuenta de las condiciones iniciales y de la incidencia, como una síntesis entre concreción y representatividad.
