Using an exploratory and correlational methodology, a series of relationships are studied between the Social Development Index (SDI) and the economic structure and other structural factors in the districts of Costa Rica. The research question that guides the research is: How are the economic structure and some structural factors related to the level of development of the districts of Costa Rica? Results show a negative relationship between the SDI and the districts where the primary economic sector predominates, as well as positive relationships between the SDI and districts where the secondary and tertiary economic sectors predominate. In addition, the internal index was investigated, where a lag in the districts of the primary sector was evidenced in health, education, and economic areas. Other negative relationships were found between the destination of crop production and land use. La investigación realiza un análisis de la relación entre el nivel de desarrollo social y la estructura económica y otros factores endógenos en los territorios analizados. A partir de una metodología de tipo exploratoria y correlacional entre el Índice de Desarrollo Social (IDS) y la estructura económica y otros factores estructurales en los distritos de Costa Rica. La pregunta de investigación que orienta el estudio es: ¿Cómo se relacionan la estructura económica y algunos factores estructurales con el nivel de desarrollo de los distritos de Costa Rica? Los resultados muestran una relación negativa entre el IDS y los distritos donde predomina el sector primario de la economía, y relaciones positivas entre el IDS y distritos donde predomina el sector secundario y terciario de la economía. Por otro lado, se indagó a lo interno del índice, donde se evidenció el rezago de los distritos del sector primario en los ejes de salud, educación y el económico. Se encontraron otras relaciones negativas entre el destino de la producción de los cultivos y el uso del suelo. La investigación realiza un análisis de la relación entre el nivel de desarrollo social y la estructura económica y otros factores endógenos en los territorios analizados.
