Communication programs are also developed as part of the overall prevention campaign, although they continue to be implemented after the conclusion of the campaign. The objective of this paper was to prepare a communication program on forest fire prevention in the Paján sector, Manabí, Ecuador. For such purpose, Paján inhabitants were surveyed, and the political, legal and institutional framework was analyzed regarding the use of fire and forest fires. The resulting program must be executed within the next five years, and its general objective is to help the population direct their behavior towards a lifestyle that decreases activities causing forest fires. The main parts of the program are: background, vision, guiding principles, general objective, specific objectives, actions, means, programming of actions, responsible agents and collaborators, possible target groups, public directly interested in the program, and implementation mechanisms. Con el objetivo de reducir la cantidad de incendios forestales, en muchos países se promueven campañas de prevención que se ejecutan fundamentalmente durante la época de incendios. También se elaboran programas de comunicación, los cuales forman parte de la campaña general de prevención, con la característica de que estos continúan ejecutándose después de concluida la campaña misma. Este trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de elaborar un programa de comunicación sobre prevención de incendios forestales en el cantón Paján, Manabí, Ecuador. Como fundamentos para su elaboración se aplicaron encuestas a la población del cantón Paján y se analizó el marco político, legal e institucional referente a la problemática del uso del fuego y los incendios forestales. El programa obtenido debe ser ejecutado durante cinco años y su objetivo general es contribuir a que la población oriente su comportamiento hacia estilos de vida, en los cuales disminuyan las actividades que originan incendios forestales. Las partes principales del programa son: antecedentes, visión, principios rectores, objetivo general, objetivos específicos, acciones, medios, programación de las acciones, responsables y entes colaboradores, posibles grupos destinatarios, público interesado directo en el programa y mecanismos para su implementación.
