It was carried out using the quantitative method, where a questionnaire technique was applied (an adaptation of the one used by CEPLI at the University of Castilla La Mancha). The results reveal that the students have the skills needed for reading and provide a picture of habitual readers, but their reading habits don’t necessarily reflect a general interest in leisure reading. Digital is typically used as a reading aid. Different gender traits are identified in relation to self-perception of reading, reading behavior, and reading interests. However, there is a small proportion of students that read in a daily and academic environment that does not support reading. Se analizan los hábitos lectores del estudiantado universitario desde cinco áreas: autopercepción lectora, comportamiento lector, acceso a la lectura, intereses lectores y contexto. Se realizó mediante el método cuantitativo, aplicando la técnica de cuestionario. Los resultados informan de las competencias de lectura y cómo el estudiantado ofrece una imagen de lectores habituales, pero con comportamiento lector diferente. El soporte de lectura habitual es el digital. Se identifican rasgos diferenciados de género, en relación con la autopercepción lectora, comportamiento e intereses lectores. El contexto cotidiano y universitario no favorece la lectura. Aun así, existe un porcentaje pequeño de lectores. Analisam-se os hábitos de leitura dos estudantes universitários em cinco áreas1 autopercepção leitora, comportamento leitor, acesso à leitura, interesses de leitura e contexto. Realizou-se mediante o método quantitativo aplicando a técnica de questionário. Os resultados informam sobre as competências de leitura e como os estudantes oferecem uma imagem de leitores habituais, porém com comportamento leitor diferente. O suporte da leitura habitual é o digital. Identificam-se traços diferentes entre os gêneros em relação à autopercepção leitora, comportamento leitor e interesses de leitura. O contexto cotidiano e universitário não favorece a leitura. Ainda assim, existe uma porcentagem pequena de leitores.
