This is exploratory qualitative research that analyzes 70 responses developed by 35 high school students in a private school in Santiago, Chile. The results show that the participants believe that the historical subjects organized themselves against the dictatorship for general and ahistorical motivations (defense of human rights, loss of fear and desire for change), and they also value and point out that collective citizen actions were the main cause of the fall of the dictatorship commanded by Pinochet. The latter demonstrates the need to complexify and work explicitly and systematically the difficult histories from the ethical dimension of historical thought. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las motivaciones y la relevancia que le atribuye el alumnado a las acciones de resistencia individuales y colectivas que desarrollaron los ciudadanos durante la dictadura chilena. Esta es una investigación cualitativa de carácter exploratorio que analiza 70 respuestas que desarrollaron 35 estudiantes de educación media en un colegio particular pagado de Santiago de Chile. Los resultados demuestran que los participantes creen que los sujetos históricos se organizaron en contra de la dictadura por motivaciones generales y ahistóricas (defensa de los derechos humanos, pérdida del miedo y deseos de cambios), además valoran y señalan que las acciones ciudadanas colectivas fueron las principales causantes de la caída de la dictadura comandada por Pinochet. Esto último demuestra la necesidad de complejizar y trabajar de forma explícita y sistemática las historias difíciles desde la dimensión ética del pensamiento histórico. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as motivações e a relevância atribuídas pelos alunos às ações de resistência individual e coletiva desenvolvidas pelos cidadãos durante a ditadura chilena. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória que analisa 70 respostas elaboradas por 35 alunos do ensino médio de uma escola pública de Santiago do Chile. Os resultados mostram que os participantes acreditam que os sujeitos históricos se organizaram contra a ditadura por motivações gerais e a-históricas (defesa dos direitos humanos, perda do medo e desejo de mudança), além de valorizarem e apontarem que as ações coletivas dos cidadãos foram a principal causa da queda da ditadura liderada por Pinochet. Esse último fato demonstra a necessidade de tornar mais complexas as histórias difíceis e de trabalhar explícita e sistematicamente a partir da dimensão ética do pensamento histórico.
